Molecular modelling

Modelling of Liquid Crystals: This lecture was given by Dr Mark Wilson at the British Liquid Crystal Society Winter Workshop.

Dr Wilson discusses many aspects of molecular simulation techniques including: The history of modelling; lattice models; hard particle models; soft particle models; atomistic models; hybrid models; and various prediction techniques for elastic constants and helical twisting power.

The lecture slides can be found here.

Continuum Theory of Liquid Crystals: This lecture was given by Dr Nigel Mottram at the Displaymasters MSc course.

These lectures are intended to be a general introduction to liquid crystal continuum theory such as: calculus of variations and energy minimisation; Freedericksz effect; Ericksen-Leslie theory and flow effects; solving Maxwell's equations; critical voltage calculations; simple models of ferroelectric liquid crystal device switching.

The lecture slides can be found here.
