There's no common sense left. I was aprehended at St Enochs Shopping centre years ago too and told I had to get permission. I was just casually taking some photos, not for anything really just messing around with shutter speeds and thats what you get. I could understand if i had a tripod spread out causing an obstrution but I wasn't. The minute you have a professional camera (or one that looks like it) you get questioned.
